The
manufacturers of the world's greatest lubricants now bring you
a practical
and
economical chain elongation (stretch) gauge. For
a longer-lasting drive train, the ProLink Chain Gauge is your best
friend!
Instructions
The
ProLink Chain Gauge is easy to use:
1.
Hook one end of the chain gauge into a chain.
2.
Gently lower the other end of the chain gauge along the line
of the chain allowing the tip of the gauge to enter the gap between
the rollers. If the tip of the gauge will not enter the gap
between the chain rollers then there is less than 50% wear to your
chain.
3.
Read off the gauge the percentage of wear level with the top of the
chain where it has entered the gap between the rollers.
4.
Check the reading by measuring the level of wear in at least
3 different locations on the chain with your ProLink Chain
Gauge.
NOTE:
Do
not apply force to the measuring arm of the gauge by forcing it
into the gap between the chain links as this will give you an
inaccurate reading and cause damage to your ProLink Chain
Gauge.
WARNING:
Always
take care when first using a new chain with a used cassette to
ensure that the new chain does not slip on the worn teeth of the
used cassette. An out of the saddle slip of a new chain on a used
cassette may result in the loss of control of your bicycle and
injury and damage to person and/or property.
PRO-TIP
If
your chain is showing 75% wear then the replacement of the chain
before further wear occurs will possibly enable you to avoid having
to replace your cassette. If you leave replacement of your
chain until 100% wear is shown you will most likely have to replace
your cassette along with replacement of your chain.
The
replacement of your chain at an early stage will in effect save you
money by not having to replace your cassette. Thus the chain
gauge will pay for itself in no time and thereafter save you money
by telling you when you should consider replacing your chain before
you need to replace your cassette.
